Spatial Variation in the Composition and Diversity of Fishes Inhabiting an Artificial Water Supply Lake, Eastern China

With the intensification of eutrophication, many artificial water supply lakes that act as a biological filter for diverted from rivers have been built to alleviate scarcity in Eastern China. In this study, we selected Lake Yanlong, representative lake Yancheng City, our experimental explore how community composition fishes changed among different habitat types and assess potential consequences effective treatment. From October 2015 2020, conducted quarterly surveys fish communities environmental factors Mangshe River (MR; lake) compared four treatment zones Yanlong (PZ, pretreatment zone with inlet MR; EZ, emergent macrophyte zone; SZ, submerged DZ, deep purification outlet urban waterworks). A total 16,339 individual belonging 11 families 49 species were collected. Six eight dominant observed across small-bodied fishes. Despite reduced richness, relative abundance biomass tended be higher MR. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Pielou evenness Simpson’s index all decreased MR DZ following sequence: < PZ EZ SZ DZ. Analysis similarities similarity percentage analysis confirmed differed significantly Coilia ectenes , Carassius auratus Pseudobrama simony Hemiculter leucisculus bleekeri major differentiating species. Mantel’s test redundancy revealed depth, aquatic vegetation coverage, phytoplankton concentrations determining spatial distribution when moving Yanlong.
